INITIATIVES & VOLUNTEERING
OUR NYC acts as social platform that coordinates initiatives that bring New Yorkers from diverse backgrounds, experiences and generations together. NYC STARTING UP does the same, with more of a focus on social entrepreneurship and trying to understand the future direction of the economy of our City so that the next generation can have ample opportunities to reach their potential.
The initiatives listed below provide young adults and students with opportunities to contribute to NYC and it’s diverse Communities in meaningful ways, tapping into their creativity, intelligence, perspectives and talents.
CLIMATE TECH
We are currently recruiting for a new initiative that we are excited about, dealing with what may be the defining issue affecting future generations, – an online publication to be housed on ClimateTech.nyc that would involve research and writing about policy, laws, technological developments and startup activity impacting the climate.
As arguably the world’s leading city, the course that NYC pursues can serve as a model for the rest of the world and team members would get a ‘front row seat,’ helping to identify the best way forward.
DIGITAL ECONOMY NYC
DigitalEconomy.nyc is an online publication providing analysis of NYC’s digital economy, exploring its startup ecosystem, industries, university & incubator scene and more.
KOREAN HELP
By some estimates numbering roughly half a million residents, Korean-Americans have been among the great providers of good and services to the Greater New York area for decades and more recently New Yorker’s have joined much of the rest of the world in appreciating Korean culture and food.
The Korean Help Initiatives utilize the KoreanHelp.org site as an easy-to-find, centralized location for resources & information for this Community and they bring together and coordinate organizations, professionals, academics, government and students.
A key focus is on providing information that is otherwise not easily accessible whether due to language or cultural barriers such as resources for domestic violence victims, and a comprehensive medical services directory.
SOCIAL ENTREPRENEURSHIP
In light of persisting and critical socioeconomic, cultural and environmental challenges that our city struggles with, our Social Entrepreneurship program empowers our young adults, to take on these challenges by unlocking their visions, abilities and creativity through an incubator approach that seeks to create a more robust ecosystem of social service capabilities. This is a joint initiative with NYC Starting Up.
PODCASTS
One of the most fun and yet meaningful activities we provide assistance for consists of encouraging students and young adults from diverse Communities whose voices have historically been largely absent from what has been the mainstream, to share their perspectives in the form of Podcasts, creating spaces for those voices.
SOUTH ASIAN HELP
Currently in their early stages, the South Asian Help initiatives are using the lessons obtained from the Korean Help to build a similar easy-to-find, centralized hub for resources and information capable of assisting the various South Asian Communities in NYC and foster collaboration among their various segments.
